I turned off the television and the lamp, then made my way through
the dark house, confident that I could make it to the bedroom without
turning on the lights. Why not? I’ve made that trip every night for
nearly 15 years. It was a straight shot through the living room, then
the family room and down the hall to my bedroom. No furniture in the
way, easy peasy – except that I hadn’t counted on someone leaving the
closet door in the open. I’m happy to tell you that I didn’t stub my
toe, but I did stub my head! Go ahead, laugh, but that goose-egg on my
forehead was a powerful lesson…
It’s the same as trying to make my way through this sin-darkened world without having the good sense to illuminate my path with the light-giving Word of God. Reading the Bible helps us to develop wisdom, discernment and insight. Without it we are just wandering in the dark, making wrong turns, running into obstacles. Please, have the good sense to take a few minutes every day to shed some light onto your path. Read your Bible and save yourself a headache! No matter how much confidence I have
in my ability to navigate a dark house,
wisdom dictates that I turn on a light!
